Results: last weekend of September

This is starting to become the NORM- another weekend, another collection of PB's.  Here are the results:

Jeremy Tracey had an amazing peformance at the Laurier Loop.  Despite being in the middle of some very hard weeks for his marathon training, he managed to take over a minute off his 10K personal best, posting a time of 45:56, placing 12th overall and placing 1st in his category.

Nolan Tracey performed extremely well in the 5K, beating 100's of full grown adults, posting a time of 26 minutes.  Visit: www.runwaterloo.com for full results and a race recap.

At the ABC festival, Jordan Schmidt crushed the 5K with a new personal best of 17:06!!  This is almost a 1.5 minute improvement over the last 12 months.  This brought him to the finish in 2nd place overall.

At the VASA trail run, Sue and Liz both had awesome races.  Sue placed 3rd in her AG, and Liz took the win in hers!  Great work girls!

- Mike Piazza ran 1:26:07, good enough for 4th in his AG and a new personal best!

H+P Racing: Sept 14th and 15, 2013

Here is the results round-up for the weekend of Sept 14th-15th, 2013:

Kristin on top of the podium at Bracebridge in 2012

A HUGE congratulations goes out to Kristin Marchant for her performance and the Triathlon World Championships.  She trained with us in 2011 and 2012- and is still the Summer TT record holder.  Despite battling chronic, recurrent running injuries, and getting sick the day before the race Kristin still managed to walk away as the WORLD CHAMPION for women aged 20-24 in the Olympic distance tri.  Most impressively, she won the race by about 2 minutes, including running a 36:11 10K off the bike.  Click here to see the full results.

On the highschool racing front, we have to recognize Nicole Shrigley's performance in what was supposed to be a 3K "fun run."  Going in with the plans of taking it easy, Nicole quickly got caught up in the competitive spirit on the day, and ran 12:48 on a windy and hilly course- a 21s PB!

In the cycling world, Vance continues to display excellent consistency despite his lengthy season.  He raced into a top-100 performance at the Centurion C50 in Collingwood- a race we will be targeting as a team for next year!  CLICK HERE for the full results.

Finally, a huge congrats goes out to mountain man himself, Craig Kingston.  He had a great performance at the 5Peaks Heart Lake 14.4K.  He ended up averaging well under 5mins/K on a very technical course, good enough for 5th in his AG.  CLICK for full results.

H+P Early Sept Racing

The summer is coming to an end, but H+P is still out there, crushing race courses.  Here are some recent results:

Luke Eghoetz had an amazing race at the 2013 1/2 Ironman World Championships.  He averaged over 35hm/h on the bike, ran just over 1:30 for the half marathon, and managed to place inside the top 40 for his AG.  Click here for the results.

Sue and Liz both had awesome performances in the Wasaga Beech Sprint Duathlon.  It was their first time ever doing a multisport event- Liz even manged to place 3rd in her AG!  Results.

Erik had a great showing at the half-Ironman in Muskoka.  Coming of injuries from his Ironman, Erik still went out and had fun, placing in the top 50 in his AG!  Results.

Vance, despite a busy summer of racing, was back at it- this time in Montreal for the Duathlon National Championships.  He tore up the course, placing top 10 in his AG.  Results.

Adam and Kev had one last showdown for the year at the Hy-Vee Olympic National Triathlon Championships (for USA).  Adam did take the win, but Kev unfortunately suffered a flat on the course.  He did finish the race on a positive note though with a sub-42 10K.  Results.

Late-August Racing

ENDURrun and IMMT aside, there have also been a few other races worth mentioning over the past few weeks!

Mark Potvin had a great 5K in Dundas on the 17th.   He ended up breaking 25- minutes for the first time ever, and placing 3rd in his AG!

Shantell Powell also had a great performance at the Mud Hero 6K.  She ended up coming in with a time well under 1 hour, placing 81st in her AG.  This is pretty darn good since there were well over 300 people in her AG!

Despite just coming off the duathlon World Championships, Vance Lai performed quite well at the Orillia sprint duathlon.  He managed to place 3rd overall and 2nd in his AG!

H+P at Ironman Mount Tremblant

H+P had a few representative and Ironman Mount Tremblant- here they are!

Kevin Grotheer (the king of not training- actually did NOT train this year aside from fixing Coach Sean's AC and doing a few races) managed to finish the race in a comfortable time of 13:44:31.  This was good enough for 1474th overall, 66th in AG

One of Coach Sean's personal coaching athletes had an inspirational result.  Lori Smith was rounding into the best shape of her life 3 months out from the event.  However, on an otherwise unremarkable training ride, she fell off her bike and broke her arm.  She was put in a cast, and this left her unable to swim, bike or even run for 4 weeks.  At the 5 week point, the fracture still had not healed completely, but there was enough stability to start doing some light work in the trainer along with some other light exercises (still no swimming at all).  1 month out from the race, the arm had healed, but was weak and sore from not being used for 8 weeks!  There was no way the bone would be ready to withstand an Ironman, let alone have surrounding musculature that is ready to go (or so we thought).  At this point, most advised it was in her best interests to forget about the race.  However, not willing to quit, Lori ramped up the training very quickly (not without significant arm pain), and then decided she would give the race a shot.  She ended up finishing in well under 15 hours, good enough for 81st in her AG.  Great work Lori!

Ed Cyr (trained with us this past winter) who races with Studio Energi also had a great race!  He ended up coming in just under the 10-hour mark.  This was good enough to place easily in the top 100, and to win his AG!

Chris Morton (who trained with us last year) also had a great race, finishing in just under 10.5 hours.  This was good enough for top 20 in his AG, good job Chris!
